Wilhite's Opinion

In Jerry's Opinion

An introductory note from Jerry Pippin: Jerry Wilhite was a high school classmate of mine. We were active in high school debate and other competitive speech activities. We have stayed in contact all these years, but we drifted apart over political issues. Wilhite leaned and voted for Republicans, I have only voted for one Republican in my entire life and that was for a local candidate here in Oklahoma. He did not win and the other man who I did not know as well as been an excellent steward of his office.

Wilhite moved to Houston a few years back from Southern California and received a wake up call about the Bush clan and Republicans in general. He now wants them all purged from office. I urge you to read these columns, they are filled with insight and a view of the world that I find refreshing. We are calling this group of essays, " Is It November. Yet?"

Please read his columns and feel free to respond to Jerry's articles at wilhite@jerrypippin.com.

Biden Is an Excellent Choice
08/24/08

In my opinion Joe Biden is an excellent choice for Vice President. He is capable, if need be, of stepping in should ill fortune find Obama. He presents a fair-but-firm image to overseas interests. His reputation is very good. People like him.

Did Hillary get stiffed? Maybe, but Obama has his reasons. To not select her as his running mate must have been a hard decision. We will probably never know the reasons, but they may have to do with former President Clinton. He was less than diplomatic in the primaries.

Do I believe Obama is ready for the job of President? There may be others with more impressive credentials, but they lack the charisma and sincerity exhibited by Obama. We must also remember that after the reign of Bush-Cheney anyone will be better.

Obama has raised the hopes of the land. He will need all of our understanding and help to advance his goals, our goals. I support this ticket wholeheartedly and ask all to do the same.

McCain-Romney, or so the guessing goes, would just be Bush-Cheney-McCain-Romney. No, thank you!! We need compassion in the White House and the Republicans are certainly not known for that.

I Am Going to Go Out on a Limb
 08/20/08

I am going to go out on a limb and predict Obama’s pick for running mate. I lean, personally, towards Joe Biden. He impressed me much during his campaign. He would offer a sense of security in foreign matters.

I seldom get my way in politics. Therefore I predict Hillary Clinton as Obama’s pick. It would be a large step towards healing rift in party. There is also the benefit of her 18 million voters. McCain, for some stupid reason, is gaining daily on Obama. An extra 18 million votes would go a long way toward victory.

I guess we will know in a matter of days, if not hours. Obama will probably pick somebody I didn’t even mention. That would certainly be in order with my record as prognosticator!!

Hell to the Chief!!
08/15/08

Russia has acted shamelessly in invading a sovereign nation. There are reports that they may have caused the death of hundreds of innocent civilians. President Bush has cautioned them, as a defender of Democracy, and told Russia in no uncertain terms to pull back.

Let’s look at all that could happen if they don’t. They could kill, either before or after a trial, the Georgian leader. The Russians could declare that those who oppose them are terrorists, and as such, capture and hold them without cause. The Russians could go much further and hold those suspected of being enemies in a secluded prison with no access to legal representation.

In fear of retribution Russia may develop a group with unlimited powers to protect the homeland. They could, then, even seize Russian citizens and hold them as long as they deemed necessary. This, too, with no access to legal representation. They could call this group illegal combatant wannabes! Hell, they might not even need to inform them of that which they are being charged.

Thank God, we have George W. Bush to save the day. He would never invade a sovereign nation. He would not stand by and see that country’s leader executed. No illegal prisons or torture for him. Hell to the Chief!!

If God Were Here Election Day?
08/06/08

I am not a church-going person, for I find within its confines far too many hypocrites and networkers, and far too few Christians. The concept of God is great to contemplate. The idea that someone will take my problems as His and spare me the pain and frustration of life is so soothing. The idea of a world ruled by love is so comforting.

However, amid those thoughts, a worry clouds my mind. So many of God’s chosen few seem so militant. Can that be right? Are we to love or kill our neighbor? Does God love us all or just a few? Can man have gotten it wrong?

We have a President in office that professes to be a Christian. This President has even allowed that he carried on two-way conversations with God. Yet this President “lied” us into a war. This President has been responsible for untold deaths and injuries. Are these the actions of a Christian?

This rapidly becomes too confusing for my simple mind to answer. So I ask myself, “If God were here Election Day, for whom would he vote?” One candidate is far less militant than the other. One candidate seems far more caring than the other. One candidate seems sincere, one doesn’t.

Do we have it wrong? Are the teachings of God about love or power? Jesus lived a life of love and God seemed proud of his actions. Does that mean anything?

I guess I believe the Golden Rule is the measuring stick. Maybe that makes me a fool, who knows? Maybe “Bring-em-on" Bush is right. Maybe God admires the thieves and liars. They sure seem to end up wealthy.

The world has suffered Hitler, Idi Amin and countless others as leaders. We have Bush-Cheney who I will put up against anyone as the most evil rulers in history. They have wrecked this country and it will take decades to correct it upon their exit.

So again, "If God were here Election Day, for whom would he vote”? Answer that for yourselves on Election Day. Vote each race with that thought, as well as patriotism, in your hearts, and we will cast our future. If you choose more of the same, you deserve what you get, and what we have had. If you want a better America, especially for those who will follow us, there will be so many new faces in Washington that it will be a miracle!!

America's Embarrassments!!
07/30/08

America has endured her embarrassments over the years. She has suffered child labor issues. In other countries we call them sweatshops; here they were profit centers. Today we outsource our child labor, and provide those who use them with tax breaks. They are still profit centers.

Outsourcing American labor to countries with little or zero human rights laws has allowed our corporations to chalk up enormous profits. The really good thing is the corporations don’t have to incur all the costly things American workers require. Things like health insurance, a minimum wage that will allow a family to subsist, retirement plans so when the worker has worked himself almost to death he could sit under a shade tree a few years before he died, are no longer a cost item to those outsourcing our jobs!!

America has suffered company stores, designed to keep employees broke and indebted to their employer. Coupled with debtor’s prisons, which America also endured, these company stores really worked well for employers. Their backs were finally broken through unionization and collective bargaining.

America still has fires burning in her bowels caused by mining companies with no regard to worker safety, or the environment. Coal companies were ruthless in protecting their bottom lines by underpaying workers, and sending them daily into very dangerous working conditions.

I was taught at an early age that nearly all the evil profiteers in the past were Republicans. I believe that to this day. I see no difference between the educated bastards who outsourced our children’s futures today and the evil, uncaring profiteers of old.

America enjoyed some great years following WWll. They were years in which the workingman could see the fruits of his labor. We had a G.I. Bill. We had housing policies that fit every American. We had joy and prosperity.

Those days are gone, my friend. The demise of the working class was completed when President Reagan killed unions. The working class was made just one voice, rather than a collective roar!! From that day forward Republicans have embarked upon a well-crafted plan to bankrupt America, and her working class.

This leads us to today in America’s history. Only the top two per cent receive special treatment from the Republican Congress, certainly not the average Joe. Laws have been passed or altered so that an American worker has fewer rights than EVER before. Our government, under a Republican administration, has raped, pillaged, and plundered all the money, all the rights, and all the freedoms enjoyed by Americans in the good, old days.

Republicans lay upon Democrats the charge that they are “ tax and spend.” A large deficit is only hidden, or undisclosed taxation. This administration will leave office with more debt than ever before in America’s lifetime. Most of the BILLIONS of dollars that have been spent were done so to enrich a very few. I didn’t get my share, but I will be asked to pay it when the Republican thieves leave office.

I am not at all happy with the actions of the Democrats in office. I think impeachment, or imprisonment, should be on the table. I have seen Democrats cave when confronted by immoral Republicans. I can forgive neither.

The race most discussed is the Presidential. Will it be McCain or Obama? I submit to you that it truly matters not until we get more Democrats, good ones, in the House and Senate. Those races are where the attention of the workingman, even the so-called shrinking middle class, should be focused. Look very closely at the voting record of the incumbents. Fire them in November if they haven’t protected our rights and freedoms, even jobs, in the past.

I much prefer “tax and spend” Democrats to that we have endured in recent years. Democrats will protect Social Security. Democrats will return diplomacy to the forefront of foreign affairs, rather than threats and wars of the money-grubbing Republicans. My children, and yours, will be so far ahead under Democrats in power, than the military-industrial cheats and thieves under whom America has suffered far more harm than ever wreaked by a foreign power. This article represents the most bi-partisan effort I can manage when discussing the difference between Republicans and HUMANS. Please don’t take offense if you support Bush-Cheney and their handpicked team of high paid subordinates. Instead, just stay the hell away from me. I don’t even want to know you, and you surely can’t date my Granddaughter!!

Enough is Truly Enough!!
07/25/08

On September 18, 2001 Congress authorized the President to seek out and destroy those who acted or aided in the911!! Attack on the Twin Towers. This President chose, instead, to launch a pre-emptive strike against a sovereign nation not involved in said attacks. It is for this reason that all authority should be withdrawn and impeachment proceedings initiated.

Waiting serves no purpose. The administration has acted in a deceitful manner from Day One. They have pursued an agenda contrary to the desires of the electorate, and they just don’t give a damn. We, the people, are just fodder and income sources for the uncaring bastards in charge!!

They feel impervious to criminal charges. After all, they own the Justice Department. However there are alternatives. I don’t want to wait for an administration change to begin to restore America to the lofty position held prior to internal attack from the Executive Branch.

They have lied, ignored subpoenas and, in all ways possible shown their contempt for the Americans they are supposed to represent. Well, guess what, they don’t represent us. They represent Halliburton, Blackwater, and others of their ilk that have lined their pockets with gold due to cronyism from the Executive Branch. We will soon spend as much in the so-called war against terrorism as was spent in Viet Nam. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Support Dennis Kucinich and Henry Wexler in their efforts to seek truth!! They do so for us, not themselves. Impeachment is used to convict or remove criminals from office. If the Republicans have nothing to fear they should welcome an open forum to discuss evidence and charges. Cover up is an admission of guilt, as far as I am concerned!!

What in the Hell has Happened to Morality and Values??
07/16/08

O.K., here’s the deal. I am opposed to drilling or exploration anywhere considered previously to be safe from potential ruin. I know nothing about the oil business, but I do seem to recall that Vice President Dick, "take-no prisoners" Cheney relied upon these same gentlemen to create our existing energy policy. Under guidance from these guys I am paying $4 plus, for gasoline. I have my home thermostat set at eighty degrees and fear my bill this month will be $$00 plus. The hot part of the summer isn’t even here yet!! So my thinking is that if Bush, friend to oilmen everywhere, and Big Oil are for it, I am agin it!!

I am really against the President, or his appointed representative, having the power to hold citizens and non-citizens without charges for any length of time such President desires. This smacks of dictatorship, and I really don’t want to live under one of those. How would these power-hungry cowards feel if the shoe were on the other foot. Remember, we will probably have a Democrat serving in the White House after January, 2009.

My Mommy never told me “water boarding” was bad. I think she would have if she could conceive such an act being performed by one human upon another. I do know she was against torture, as I believe most people are. She always said that when faced with a moral dilemma that, “I would know right from wrong, and act accordingly” I don’t believe CS Dick Cheney’s Mother ever conveyed morality to her little boy. I believe President Bush’s parents just told him to hang with the smarter guys and emulate them. This would include roughly 99 per cent of the population. One hundred per cent if you exclude six year olds and down.

This President has seized powers from a do-nothing Congress that far exceed the wishes of our Forefathers. I will vote for Jefferson, Washington, Adams, et al, as having a better perception of right from wrong.

This do-nothing Congress, with only a couple of exceptions need to be fired in November. It really is time for new blood with old ideals. Vote all incumbents out and you will have my erstwhile support.

Herr Rove and His One-Finger Salute
07/13/08

Karl Rove has shown his contempt for Congress by ignoring a subpoena to appear before this august body. Thus far, other than to bluster, Congress has done zilch. Herr Rove is by no means the first employee of the Executive Branch to refuse to appear when called. Even little old ladies thumb their nose at Congress. The Vice President openly defies and mocks them. The President will not appear under oath.

So, why do we need Congress? It was initially set up as a watchdog to prevent the Executive Branch from ignoring the checks and balances thoughtfully provided by our forefathers. They seem to have failed at that. They were also to serve the electorate by keeping government honest and ethical. God knows they have failed at that. Maybe we don’t need them. We could outsource their positions to India on a part-time basis and save tons of dollars. No health care benefits, no outrageous retirement incomes, no big expense accounts, and probably less theft would be the benefit to the electorate.

An alternative is to not vote for a single incumbent. Disrupt the existing power bases and prevent future ones from forming. Remember, we can do no worse than what we now have in office. A new dummy is probably better than an old thief.

While you think about this put a visual image in your mind of little old ladies thumbing their nose at we, the people. Think about Herr Rove and treacherous Dick Cheney giving to us the familiar one-finger salute. If that doesn’t irk you, you are getting that which you deserve!!

(07-09-08) Bush Once Again Wins in the Senate
Fourth Amendment takes back seat to communications company donations and payoffs to them from Bush Administration, FISA bill passes..

Hitler Would be SO Proud!!!!!
07-09-08

It has been five decades since the Allied Forces defeated the Nazi’s to end World War Two.  The atrocities committed during that time period were so numerous and awful that the majority of the world, those who did not suffer, could not believe them.  Only one thing was certain…it would never happen again!!

I don’t know that the current Republican administration is as bad, but they certainly have followed the lead of Adolph Hitler.  Hitler embedded reporters with journalists in order to manipulate the news.  This administration does so also, as well as hiring newscasters to deliver propaganda-type shows as if they are news events.  Hitler believed in astrology and would make no important moves without first consulting with those who fed his ego.  Bush goes one giant step better…He has two-way conversations with God.  My belief is that God would strike this fool dead.  Hitler built concentration camps in Germany to dispose of dissidents.  This administration does also, though they have not, as yet, started rounding up the people they fear.  Hitler had a Homeland Security…This administration does too.

The administration has gutted the meaning of our law and our Constitution.  Habeas Corpus is the key factor in American law that set us apart from other countries.  It exists no more.  An American citizen can be picked up, incarcerated, refused an Attorney, never really know what he is charged with, and held in that state for an undetermined length of time.  This is not my America.  This is not the America for which our ancestors spilled their blood.  This is certainly not the Land of Opportunity we once held sacred.

Outsourcing, the selling of American jobs and wages overseas for profit, has decimated our economy.  Our educational system certainly doesn’t prepare graduates to succeed in the workplace.  In many cases, if the cash register doesn’t work, correct change is out of the question.  Over a third of our youth drop out of school.  Our religious leaders have become far too involved in other than our spiritual lives.  They feel they can control the country through a united Christian vote.  They have schools similar to those in Saudi Arabia where the young are filled with hatred.

Hitler would be so proud if he could see America today.  He would feel he won!!  The American way of life is, in fact, destroyed.  “Follow the money” is our new mantra, damn the consequences.

We, the people, have, possibly, a last chance to begin a return to our grand traditions in 2008.  We can elect a whole new slate of politicians to replace those who have failed us.  We should not reelect a single incumbent, not a single one.  There might be one or two worth keeping, but let’s just start over.  Neither political party is earning their pay, or fulfilling their Constitutional obligations.  Let’s send all them home!!

LETTER TO JERRY PIPPIN ABOUT POLITICS AND SPIN : ROUND AND ROUND IT GOES AND WHEN IT STOPS...THE PE0PLE LOSE
(June 28, 2008)

Jerry,

People are willing to overlook the passage of the war funding program because it contains some pluses for a very few Americans.  An extended thirteen weeks of unemployment benefits probably doesn't cover those for whom benefits have expired.  Correct me if I am wrong.  People have suffered unemployment for the term of this uncaring administration.  Those unemployed in the first year probably get zilch from the new bill.

As for Veterans benefits they could have waited until after January and been retroactive.  Nobody gained anything from this bill except the administration and their cronies.  Can't anyone see that?

The funding of the war would be less meaningful if we knew what percentage of the money went to GI's as opposed to mercenaries and suppliers.  I would love to know the breakdown of these millions and billions that have been wasted in the war in Iraq.  We shouldn't even be in Iraq.  We are so wrong it's pathetic, and everyone forgets that.

This administration, following its own agenda, lied to create this war.  They deserve imprisonment and I hope someday they get it.

I have always thought I would have trouble taking a human life.  But if an executioner is needed for those in this administration who deserve execution, call on me.  I will push the button, pull the switch or whatever is required to punish these bastards without pay.  I promise you I will never suffer a day of regret!!

If the war in Iraq is BS, the war on terror is simply theft.  Hundreds of millions can't even be accounted for.  Security is no better than Sept. 10, 2001, yet a new government dept. has been created and BILLIONS have found their way to someone.  The only difference I see is that I now wear slip-on shoes to airports rather than lace-ups.  Big freaking deal.

I am so angry with the ease that Americans can be manipulated and deceived it is pathetic.  Just once I wish they would look at the big picture rather than divisive issues.  I, frankly, don't think they are smart enough.

GOING HOME AGAIN
06/26/08

America, once the bastion of Democracy and freedom, has lost the luster paid for by the blood of WWll soldiers. There are as many countries that would like to disassociate themselves from us, as countries that welcome us. Where and why have we altered our traditions that were a beacon of hope to those suffering under restrictive governments??

We have become ensnared in so many foreign, and domestic issues, that we are close to fifty-fifty in beliefs. The Civil War is not likely to be repeated, but the attitudes are present to foster conflict. Name-calling has become an art form. Religion has reared its head as a political force, and it is not a pretty picture.

It was always my belief that Christians were kind, tolerant, loving people. I don’t feel that way anymore. Their stand on gay rights, abortion, stem cell research, and multitudes more issues make me see them as warlike.

I would be branded a “Liberal." I do believe that social programs should help those less fortunate. Should this help come from the government?? In reality, probably not, but in two hundred years no other entities have emerged that are willing to consistently aid others, with no expectation of repayment.

Can you imagine an America without Medicare? How about an America with an inadequate Social Security program?? WE would see indigent seniors dying in the streets? Maybe society does not owe anyone a helping hand, maybe we should just gather all the non-productive members of society up when their funds are exhausted and perform euthanasia upon them? Granted, that would include Mothers and Fathers of the young that are now so vocal in protest of “taking from the rich, and giving to the poor.”

Another alternative would be that debts owed by the parents became the legal responsibility of the children. If your parent required $75,000 or so in medical care, you would be required to pay in advance, until your funds were exhausted. If they charged foodstuffs, it would become your debt, and so on. Kind of a scary thought, isn't it?

Most “liberals” are not rich. Most “conservatives” are not rich. There is little to separate us from one another. Most Americans do not have funds sufficient to survive six months without income. That time frame diminishes greatly when medical care is needed, or several prescriptions.

Why, then, are we so polarized? Why can we not hold honest communication, and problem solving conversations? Don’t both sides acknowledge that there are problems and issues requiring consideration and treatment?

Abortion is a hot-button issue. You are either for it or you are against it. There must be middle ground. I was a product of the Fifties, when girls were often forced to abort with people not medically trained, in less than hygienic surroundings. Many girls were killed, or rendered infertile by the butchers of that era. I don’t want a return to that. I, also, do not want abortion to be a form of birth control. I have no solution, but believe middle ground must be found.

Young people of today are not as morally supervised, as were children of the past. Too many latchkey children, too few families that adhere to moral values are just a small part of the problem. When the businessmen and politicians are as corrupt as they are today, and revered for it, what message is being received? Kenny Lay, Tom Delay are wealthy men who have shown little respect for decent behavior. There are multitudes of others, including “liberals” that continually are spotlighted in acts bordering on illegal or unethical. Are these types the ones we wish our children to emulate? I hope not, but actions tell me that a large part of America is willing to overlook this type person if his actions away from his business are consistent with the beliefs of those who witness his behavior. Kenny Lay and Tom Delay are attendees of Sunday services, donate money and time to charities, and are willing to seemingly adhere to right wing Christian values. The part about not stealing doesn’t matter. The bald abuse of power is not an issue.

The masses have been artfully manipulated by the few. We all have issues that are important to us. We do not brook any attempt at furthering whatever cause we oppose. We brand anyone who opposes our programs as a “liberal” or “conservative”. We don’t show them the tolerance we show that nice Lay and Delay guy. We are willing to never consider anything the branded “evildoer” does or says on any other issues. They are just not worthy.

I would very much like to write articles read and considered by both sides, with an idea of compromise. An open exchange of ideas, in a forum without name-calling, is an absolute must if we are to proceed in less than a vacuum. Please submit your thoughts as to which issues should be discussed, and we will tackle it. Don’t tell me I don’t love America, or to leave if I don’t like it. I would remind you we are not a subject of England because that was done already. I actually looked into becoming an expatriate, and found that Medicare will not cover most treatment overseas. I am sure there is a reason for that, but I know not what.

If there are no, or few, responses, we will just fall back into the “name-calling” game and achieve the same nothingness our August members of the House and Senate have achieved. They are slowly reducing our rights and freedoms in favor of “big business”. There are no poor, or less than very wealthy, members of the House and Senate to protect us. Maybe there were never poor politicians, but they voted the issues, not voting the Party way under duress.

Things must change. If we can’t even communicate how can there be change? The two political parties are not right on every issue. How can they be? They are as polarized as are we.

Let us hear from you, or else I will just call you all “Neo-Cons” and refuse to attend your parties. You may brand me a liberal and do the same. But, how will change be done if that is what we do??

What Did Your Daddy Do in the War?
06/23/08

Following WW!! I empathized with Germans my age. They truly did not want to know what their Dads did in the war. They feared it would be really, really bad. After all, somebody had to transport, separate, and send all those people to their final “shower."

If many Americans get their way, myself included, Bush-Cheney, and their puppy-dog followers, will answer in a court of law for their actions. They are responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people, the maiming of hundreds of thousands, and the looting, through cronyism, of the United States Treasury. They are not nice men. If my Mommy were alive, she would despise them for their actions, and that, my friend, is good enough for me!!

But, as unintended consequences, will future generations of AMERICAN youths be forced to hope they don’t learn what their DADDYS did in the war? Will we hear a large, collective cry of “AW, shucks. I was just following my orders!!”? Will we rewrite our history books in order to ease the pain? Will public monuments and thoroughfares be destroyed or renamed so we feel better about ourselves?

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the need for this in the land of the free. Never in my worst nightmares did I believe the American public would stand by like little lost lambs and watch the ruthlessness that we have endured for the past eight years!! Never did I fear that our media would become like Pravda, simply parroting words of the decider. What in pure Hell overcame our will and spirit. It was fear or greed, take your pick. We should have put our collective feet down when they destroyed our educational system, then the finest in the world.

It has been said that “The time is now!”  I believe it to the extent that if elected officials continue to represent interests other than those good for ALL Americans, they should be swiftly dealt with by removal from office. WE were the idiots, not G.W. Bush, to allow the destruction of the values for which most of us stand. The time really is now. Do something with it!!

GOD BLESS JANUARY AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!
06/17/08

Thank God that President Bush has stated that the Taliban is no longer a threat, else I would be really concerned about what is happening in Afghanistan. Thank God President Bush has stated that he is not concerned with capturing Osama Bin Laden, saying that he is just one man and not so powerful. Also, President Bush declared almost a decade ago to capture and punish those responsible for the Twin Towers attack. I’m sure he will keep his word for he is known to be a Christian. Thank God President Bush announced, “Mission accomplished” some five or six years ago, else I would worry that two or three thousand more American soldiers would shed their blood in Iraq.

On the domestic front, thank God that President Bush assured us he was a "uniter," not a divider, else I would worry why there was so much hatred in the land. Thank God that one of the first things President Bush attended to was the creation of a new energy plan to save Americans from high oil, gas, and utility costs, else I would wonder why I grimace when I need gasoline.

Thank God President Bush foresaw future needs and created Homeland Security, else I would worry about FEMA and their response time. The very first thing that was done after Hurricane Katrina was to award Halliburton a new cost plus contract to rebuild New Orleans. It would be interesting to see how much they have been paid, wouldn’t it? Notice I did not say, “How much they had EARNED”. Thank God that President Bush has cleaned up our border situation. Don’t we all breathe a sigh of relief? After all, President Bush put several Border Patrol agents in prison so as not to interfere with drug and alien importation. Wait, isn’t that contrary to the wishes of the people?

Thank God that President Bush carries on two-way conversations with God, else I would question some of his decisions. Thank God President Bush, has at his side humanitarian Dick Cheney. Everyone knows he is just a kind-hearted politician following the will of the people.

REALLY, THANK GOD THAT THIS ADMINISTRATION WILL NOT EXIST AFTER JANUARY 2009. That is, unless it is perceived to be in the interest of the people, necessary for Bush-Cheney to remain in office. If that be the case, can you spell IMPEACHMENT or INCARCERATION. That is what these thieving dastards deserve already, don’t you agree?

GOD BLESS JANUARY, AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

Come, Dream a Little Dream with Me

06/15/08

I sometimes daydream. That is to say that I leave the stark world of reality. I go wherever I want, do anything I wish, and do so with whomever I want. Some people dishonor the power of daydreaming and call it fantasy.

Maybe so, but I have enjoyed daydreaming all of my life. Some hopes and ideas have sprung from these mental journeys. I have discussed Democracy with Thomas Jefferson, spent many hours laughing with Samuel Clemens, best know as Mark Twain. I have spent untold hours visiting beautiful women all over the world. Money was, of course, no object.

I have chatted with Elvis. I have spent time with Charley Parker. I don’t visit so called “Superheroes”." because, after all, they are not real.

I have not visited George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, John McCain, et cetera. After all, if I wanted to visit a Nazi I would summon Adolph Hitler. Why settle for wannabes?

In point of fact, I visit only a very, very few of the Republican persuasion. I find I don’t like them vary much. They always seem greedy and uncaring. They want to enslave in order to enrich their coffers. Wars are an investment opportunity to them. They don’t give a whit about the dead, dying, and maimed. After all, rarely are their children in battle. None of the top ten or so of the current administration have served in war.

No, in my daydreams, the people I speak with are concerned about others. They do things to avoid conflict when possible, but fight like Hell if they must. They are patriotic. They are hard working. They are my friends. I am proud to call them so.

To Thomas, and George, and Ben, and all the others who forged this country, I say, “Wait. We will restore it to the honor for which you lived and died. To Sgt. York, Audie Murphy, and the hundreds of thousands who have bled for this country, I voice OUR appreciation. I assure them that times are getting better. CHANGE is within our grasp. You did not fight in vain.

That’s how I daydream. What about you? If you never have, try it. It’s fun and enlightening. It makes reality feel like Hades.

Success by a Different Name
06/03/08

Wanting to be fair and unbiased I just listened to Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain give a speech. I really wanted to be fair and unbiased, but the old hypocrite irked me so within a very few minutes that I left the room. I know that politicians do not ALWAYS speak the truth, but shouldn’t they even try to come close?

Sen. McCain, of the Bush McCain’s, was stating that the success in Iraq was the result of programs that Sen. Obama opposed. I assumed he meant the surge, which should have been unnecessary in the first place. My God, we are America; the enemy is a disconnected bunch of ill prepared, badly armed guys with no military command at all.

We have been there far too long, spent far too much, sacrificed too many of our youth, much less the civilian death toll. What kind of success was McCain exhorting? I just don’t see any. Oh, sure, by moving troops around until we have an overwhelming advantage we win all the big battles. However, while we are doing that, the enemy strikes elsewhere. After they become overly irritating, we move our troops again…and so do they.

This is not success. This is not a plan worthy of our war college. This is not leadership by Bush-McCain. This is idiocy and profit taking by cronies. So, a few more kids die… did you see the profits of Halliburton and the oil giants? So what? Is this what McCain means by success? I sure hope not, because I want our troops home and our money, some TEN BILLION DOLLARS PER MONTH, to be used in country for the real benefit of Americans.

Iraq is still without basic utilities, though somebody has squandered hundreds of millions. Hospitals are under staffed and under supplied, though somebody has squandered millions. Mercenaries operate openly, but unsuccessfully, though somebody has squandered millions. Homeland Security is a joke, though somebody has squandered millions.

Iran, Syria, and a host of others are warned of imminent disaster if they do not acquiesce to our demands. Not a very successful foreign policy, is it? Senator McCain, again parroting his idol G.W. Bush, referred to the Iranian President wanting to eradicate Israel. Is that REALLY our problem? Shouldn’t we await overt action before preemptively striking another country? I doubt we have the manpower or credit rating to succeed anywhere else. Heaven knows we are broke. If there is another war Halliburton will have to fund it. Blackwater will have to provide ground personnel instead of riding around in Humvees all day.

I would challenge Bush-McCain to point to one single success we have earned in Iraq. They had a Democratic election, sure? They have yet to throw roses at our feet and welcome us as liberators, the ingrates. Meanwhile Bush-McCain preen and pose and look silly each and every day. Sickening, isn’t it.

So now, you have my unbiased opinion!! If Bush-McCain ever can detail a success for me I will, quickly pass it on to you, but don't hold your breath!!

Racism's Bitter Sting
05/22/08

I was reminded, possibly, of the reason I feel racism is wrong: I have felt its bitter sting. I was a very young age, first grade in fact.

My elementary school teacher explained to us what “Nationalities” were. She asked all of us our nationality. I did not know mine. Many students didn’t; so the teacher asked us to ask our parents that evening.

At home I waited until dinner was done and asked my parents, “What nationality are we?” The answer, when it came sent chills through me. I envisioned having to move. I realized I might have to change schools, forfeit all my friends, and be shunned forever.

We were, my Dad informed me, Black Dutch. I didn’t have many opinions in my life at that time, but I had seen how blacks were treated. They had, in my hometown, a central neighborhood called, affectionately, “N Town”. They had their own schools, where it was said some teachers couldn’t read.

My Dad tells me that after a short, stunned silence, during which time I kept looking at my, oh, so white arms, looking at his face, looking at Mother’s face I responded. I asked, at the age of six, “Does anyone else know?”

I was willing to go to school the next day and say I was of any nationality that didn’t include “Black” in its nomenclature. I, at six, understood “passing”, and ain’t that a shame???

My Dad explained that Black Dutch was the name given Germans who fled to Holland prior to WW!. I was German. Oh, what a wonderful world. And that, my friends, may explain my lack of tolerance towards racists!!

wilhite@jerrypippin.com

The Ashamedly Growing Number of THEMS. Truly Disgusting!!
05/21/08

Barack Obama is black. That cannot be whitewashed. However disgusting it is to me racism is rearing its, oh, so ugly, head. I truly, truly wish those who were racists were removed from voter registration records.

It looks as if our total vote would be forty per cent or so of current totals. Racism is not a one-way street. I have held conversations with black men and women whereby I was made to feel like pond scum because somebody, sometime, owned slaves. My family would most likely have been the poor white sharecropper, unable to eke out a living. Slaveholders, never. We didn’t even have pets because we could not properly care for them.

This is the new age in America. We have worked toward unity for at least fifty years. We are no closer in reality then ever, and may be worse. My Dad raised me to honor others because of how they lived, not what skin pigmentation in which they walked.

Yet, the only time I saw him show anything akin to fear was when I shot my big mouth off in public about my beliefs. I was probably five or six years old at the time and some men near me were talking about the lazy, shiftless “N”s that populated my hometown.

I climbed upon my soapbox and informed these bigots that it wasn’t right they had to ride in the back of the bus. I also felt their drinking from foul water fountains was awful. I sealed it with a comment about this group of white people being lazier than the “N”s. I never saw the white men working…blacks always were.

It was somewhere in the middle of what was probably my first rant that my Dad picked me up, and we hastily exited the Barber Shop where this occurred. I remember asking him if I had done anything wrong. He said “No," and added that some things were best left unsaid.

I didn’t want to be one of THEM then. I don’t want to be one of THEM now. America needs to grow up! If that infuriates you, join the Republican Party. Bigots and liars of the first degree will surround you. Otherwise, leave my few friends and me alone. We REALLY don’t want in your club!!

wilhite@jerrypippin.com

NO MAS!!!
05/20/08

I do not agree with the assertion that Iran is the reason there is no peace in Iraq. We have shocked and awed. We have declared the mission to be accomplished. We have stationed an untold number of troops on Iraqi soil. We have surged to declared great success.

If all the above is true, how could Iran, acting alone, prevent peace? They couldn’t. To say so is to continue the lies and falsehoods which endangered our troops, and supplied great wealth to cronies of Bush/Cheney. This was done despite the fact that American youth were provided zero, or non-tested body armor.

We even skirted the truth 180 degrees when Iraqis, at risk of death, returned a female combatant to our lines. Instead we fictionalized it, for the purpose of recruitment, just as many of the Penny Thrillers written during our wild west days.

This administration deserves jail time. Impeachment would be too honorable for these cowardly thieves. Hanging, after being questioned by Iranian troops hired by the U.S. Government would work for me. After all they are the ones who starting outsourcing intel. Even then they twisted it to their own causes.

Senator McCain has approved all Bush asked for, even the eradication of the Geneva Conventions. For the past five years we have been the most feared bully in the world. For the sake of the America in which many of us grew up, the home of the proud and the free…don’t vote for more of the slimy same!!

wilhite@jerrypippin.com

OUR MISSION IS JUST BEGINNING!
05/09/08

The time has come to talk of things to come. If we don’t mess it up we have a chance, an excellent chance, of having a Democrat in the White House. The worst Democrat is probably better than the best Republican, so that’s a good thing.

However that needs to be the beginning of a sweeping movement to vote out incumbents. Some may be good; most are bad. They are all guilty of one thing, not following the will of the people. They felt they owned government. It existed only to provide an excellent income opportunity.

They are wrong, but only if we band together and fire them will the new breed get the message. That message will be that performance counts. Following the precept of the Constitution is important. Working for the public need, rather than feathering their nests must become second nature to them. If the new breed doesn’t understand that, we will fire them and send another to take their place.

Never again shall we allow the assault on our personal liberties. This administration has even thrown aside Habeas Corpus, the very platform upon which our legal system flourished. They have done so much that is undermining our country they should be jailed as terrorist suspects and sent to Gitmo This after being interrogated by the same people they use for interrogations. I would imagine their attitude toward cruel and unusual treatment would do an about face.

All of this can come to fruition only if we stay united in a common cause. That cause is to return America to the country known for fairness and justice for all. Only then will I consider the mission to be accomplished.

How Long Will it Take for the World to Welcome America Again?
04/20/08

I wonder how the world will feel about America after the Neo-Cons who have hijacked our government are gone. This assumes a McCain loss for he may be a bigger proponent of war than Bush-Cheney combined. He never made Admiral in the Navy, but now is eyeing the Commander-in-Chief role. Don’t you just know he is chomping at the bit to cause the bombing of Iran?

We have placed wreathes on far too many doors in America under the supposed watch of Bush-Cheney. Both of these greedy cowards knew there was no proof of WMD’s, even as they appeared to believe Saddam had them, and the capability to strike America in about forty-five minutes, day or night. History now shows Iraq had zero to do with the events of 9-11. We are involved in an unjust action against civilians in their homeland.

How long will it take for the free world to welcome, once more, America, the peacemaker? How long until we agree that global warming is a better explanation that anything parroted by the Bush Bunch to explain changes to the world that could be very harmful? What if the scientific community is right and Bush and his unskilled appointee’s are dead wrong? We all remember, “Good job, Brownie," uttered while figuring out how to fire good old Brownie.

Will civilization give us time to become a member in good standing once more? Will China continue to support us fiscally? Without their loans there would be no Iraq occupation.

What happens with Pakistan? What happens to Afghanistan? Does the big guy on the camel still run our foreign policy? It seems that as he flits from country to country he does not fear us catching him. We are a laughing stock due to our failure to apprehend Osama Bin Laden. Does anyone but me believe we are incapable, with our military might, to subdue Al Qaeda? What about Mullah Omar and the Taliban? We haven’t even made headway against them.

It is said that George Bush is concerned with how his administration will be remembered? It will be remembered as the dumbest group ever to draw pay from the United States taxpayers. His record for foreign policy will be used as an example of what not to do forever. His domestic policies will be viewed as how to control a nation unused to insurrection by its leaders.

The elections are drawing near. Many people are looking for habitation outside the country, just in case the election is again stolen, and punishment is not meted out immediately. Americans must go to the polls and vote. If you can drive there in a Hummer, vote Republican. For all the rest of us who are hoping our cars make it to the polls, vote Democrat!!

Run, Obama, Run!!
04/01/08

Run, Obama, run. You are being pursued by Rocky in heels and a mini-skirt!! This, my friend, is no April Fools joke. The threat is very, very real.

The hooligan pursuing you seldom loses…and never gives up. Arming yourself with facts and figures will provide no relief. She will simply bat them aside and continue to throw hooks to the head.

She is capable of charm and humor. She is also capable of a Piranha appetite if she senses weakness. She is not a bad person, just wants what she wants when she wants it!

Run, Obama, run. You are in a campaign unlike any I recall. Everybody likes somebody. People want change. The campaign has been relatively cordial, but man, watch out for the stiletto heels. They can hurt!!

“And the Band Played On!!”
by Jerry Wilhite - 03/30/08

I don’t really know the origin of this, but feel it was a tribute to the band on the Titanic who continued to play, even as their ship tried to throw them into the sea. Today we have a similar situation, the Obama-Clinton race for the Presidency. Today, two bands playing on, in the near future one survivor will stand victorious.

Many feel this race will damage the chances for the Democrats in the general election. However, both parties are fully entitled to fight to the end. The so-called mud slinging that has occurred has been relatively very minor. That isn’t the problem.

I believe this is the first time I have seen the electorate so firmly committed to a candidate, no matter which one. It is a very possible scenario to conclude there will be two bands still playing at the convention. Large numbers of followers of each candidate have said they will vote for Nader, or McCain, or stay home if their candidate is not the bandleader in the General Election.

I have repeatedly stated that I would prefer a Democrat in office than a Republican. The Democrats have much work to do to restore our rights and liberties. The Republicans are quite happy to keep feathering the nest of their cronies until our currency is worthless.

Think, people, before you give away your vote in a snit. The losers in that scenario are all Americans. By all means, fight like Hell for your bandleader. But, when push comes to shove in the General Election, vote Democrat. We plainly can’t afford Republicans anymore!!

Meanwhile, the bands play on!!

wilhite@jerrypippin.com

The Best Candidate for Change, Barack Obama!!
03/24/08

There seems to be concern that the Democratic Party may explode if the candidate situation is not settled by the convention date. I don’t think so. Order will prevail and a good candidate will emerge from the convention. The Democrats could go four or five deep and still defeat war-mongering McCain.

McCain has aligned himself too closely to the Bush-Cheney crowd. Those guys could be picked up under the Patriot Act and sent to Gitmo to be questioned by Muslim interrogators. Wouldn’t you like to see video of that?

The Republicans have virtually assured a blood bath in the House and Senate with something like forty of them not standing for re-election. There are a number of Democrats who should be fired also. They forgot they were to serve the people: not pillage them. Top Democrat leadership did not do enough to protect us from the civil injustices committed by the Bush-Cheney bunch.

Now, as to the issue of race and dirty politics. We have a black Democrat, a white female Democrat, and a Republican warmonger. McCain is getting a free ride as the Democrats continue to battle, as is their right. The quicker resolution can be made by the Democrats, the quicker they can begin to point out McCain’s numerous weaknesses. He has vowed to stay in Iraq a hundred years if that is what it takes. He has indicated a willingness to attack Iran. One of the things I often puzzle over is why Iraq, why Iran? They had zero to do with the events of 9-11.

Bill Clinton has long had my admiration, but he has lost it in this campaign. For former President Clinton to infer that Obama was not an American patriot is mud slinging at its worst. For Hillary to allow comments regarding Obama’s Christianity is uncalled for in this campaign. For Hillary to insinuate that McCain would be a better Commander-in-Chief than Obama is just ludicrous.

My decision, because of all he has achieved, is to cast my ballot for the best candidate for change, Barak Obama!! Others may vote differently, wrongly, but I can’t stop that. The main thing is vote so the Republicans don’t snatch victory from certain defeat!!

Which Right is Best?
01/30/08

The 2008 election process is in full swing. We are starting to be able to identify those who will run for the office of President. My people are gone. They did not survive the primary process. It was much more than a shortage of funds. It was a deliberate shortage of media coverage. Those who lie by the wayside were skewered by the controls exercised by the media.

This is not fair to the American public in any way. We should have the right to support who we wish without fear they will be shut out of the election process. Funding must become public, and the old laws governing media must be restored.

What do I expect now? If a Republican is elected, more of the same will prevail. The munitions companies, the military-industrial complex, the “security” companies, outsourcing, et al will just keep on keeping on. This is, and has been, totally unacceptable for working Americans.

If a Democrat should prevail we will see a country try to return to what made her great in the past. We will fight poverty at home. We will work on health care solutions. We will try to get payrolls back to previous levels, so all our children can benefit. We certainly will work on improving our ruined educational system.

My thinking is that neither party is going to achieve all its goals. However, if achieving any, which Party best wishes to help average Americans. It is NOT the money-hungry, power-grubbing Republicans who have us spending about a BILLION DOLLARS a week in Iraq, so their buddies can prosper.

No, if error were to be equal I would much prefer that we failed at trying to restore America than spreading Democracy where it is not wanted. Bush-Cheney have harmed America far more than any enemy we have ever had. Why would anyone other than those feeding at the public trough, possibly want more of the same? They wouldn’t!!

If Baseball Can Be Investigated, Why Can’t Congress?
01/15/08

Congress is being asked to do for others what it cannot do for itself. It is to conduct an investigation into baseball, and the use of performance-enhancing drugs. Possibly we should have baseball players look into lobbyism, fraud, and chicanery by Congress at the same time. I wonder which group would fare the least honest.

I have nothing against baseball players, but do feel the use of steroids and performance-enhancing products should not be condoned. Men who earned them, not juiced for them, set the old records. Who knows what the home run record would be if players of old had used steroids.

I have more against members of Congress. I feel they are all in somebody’s pocket. Until we return campaigns to public funding, and restore equal time laws for the broadcast community, we are subject to the whims of networks.

Today it is Dennis Kucinich who is being sacrificed upon the altar of media extinction. They ignore him. They don’t want him in their debates. They fear him, because he is in nobody’s pocket. Heck, you just can’t trust an honest man. He might just mess things up for everyone.

Tomorrow it can be another candidate. The broad, unprincipled application of power knows no fear, other than that of losing advertising dollars. The public has tools such as boycotts to use to punish those who attempt to control us, but the public is not as organized as is large corporations. Try getting word out, other than the Internet, on a boycott, and you will begin to understand the frustration of candidates not in the inner circle.

So, if baseball can be investigated, why can’t Congress, the Executive branch, et al? Maybe the money is just too big. However that money is our money, not theirs. We must have better representation, and we must show who is boss. It is we, the people, if we choose to use our voting power, rather than allowing division for minor reasons, and corporate meddling in the election process. Wake up before it is too late. Cast your ballots and fire some people, even if they are in the middle of investigating baseball!!

Big Doings Tonight!!
01/07/08

The election in New Hampshire will be held tomorrow. While it is important, there are other things of perhaps more import taking place. We get carried away sometimes with the importance of our politics and overlook some of the big stuff.

Today we will watch John Edwards as he shares with us his dream for America. His dream best coincides with mine so I enjoy his passionate and sincere recollections of growing up on the wrong side of the tracks. I like him.

We will marvel at the quick mind and facile answers of Obama. He seems very likable, humorous, and capable. The capable part hasn’t been tested, and that concerns me. The next President is going to inherit a real mess when it comes to the Executive Department. Can a rookie handle it? I don’t know.

We will watch Hillary, the doe caught in the headlights, as she keeps talking of her wealth of experience. I just didn’t like a lot of what she did. I question her ties to the big bucks boys, and would probably rather see someone else monitoring our return to normalcy.

BUT, let’s not forget that Ohio State and LSU battle for the National title tonight. Let the politicians slog through the mud, sleet, and snow, whatever. Grab a long neck and join me on the couch. There will be elections no matter what. That’s just the way it is. A smart politician would be in the stadium tonight conducting interviews in the warmth, but that assumes there are smart politicians. The past seven years have caused great doubt in the minds of the public!!

wilhite@jerrypippin.com

New Hampshire, Here We Come!!
01/05/08

Let me share with you what I think I learned from the Iowa caucuses. The people really do want a change. Those most tied to big money fared poorly. Populists did well.

It is almost a tribute to the Clinton machine that they stayed afloat. Hilary is closely tied to big money, and questionable campaign contributions.

Credit must be given to Obama. I thought John Edwards would win. He best represents the present demands of the voters. Obama is very charismatic and reached the young voters. Young voters are going to be big players on Election Day.

The Republican side has zero candidates that I would like to see follow GW to the treasury trough. They are just not in touch with the working, or even the middle class. If we had outsourced all Republicans seven years ago we would be TRILLIONS of dollars ahead.

People were sold a bill of goods. They were convinced terrorists lurked behind every tree, and that only Repubs could save them. Show me where we have received any value for the TRILLIONS wasted by this bunch. They have failed America so badly it brings tears to my eyes when I think of it.

Halliburton did real well. Blackwater did real well. Katrina victims, not so good. It really is whom you know with this administration. They should resign in shame, but will have to driven from office instead.

We’ll watch New Hampshire and see if politics of change continues. If it does, God bless the Repubs. They are all going to be unemployed!!

Choose Wisely!!
01/01/08

The time draws near for the election process. Assuming voting machines are not rigged - a very real possibility -  the American public will be voting in what is the most important election in our history. We MUST choose wisely.

There may be many candidates that CAN do the job. I have only seen two that I would WANT to do the job. They are John Edwards and Dennis Kucinich. They are not tied to the corporate controls as others are. Obama is untested. That doesn’t make him bad…just not ready. Hilary seems to be tied to the money. I wouldn’t mind being tied to the money, but I believe my decisions would be slanted. There are zero Republicans who should have access to our treasury anymore. Let us recoup some of the BILLIONS that have disappeared before they get another shot at us.

Many say that the Democrats have no programs or ideas. Believe me, if they even start to restore our freedoms and rights, they will have earned their pay. Many sitting Democrats should not be reelected. They failed the public trust. Nancy Pelosi declaring impeachment off the table was not the will of the electorate.

So, choose wisely. Don’t reelect anyone. Start anew with those of a populist viewpoint. If not, America, as we have known her, can survive no more!!

My Granddaughter Deserves a Better World!!
12/18/07

December 17, 2007 will long be a day remembered because of the birth of my Granddaughter. I know other people have Granddaughters, but none so pretty, charming, or intelligent. She lights up the room.

As I gazed upon her countenance a scary thought crossed my mind. What kind of world awaited her? Would she be able to receive a quality education in the public school system of America? Not very likely!! Healthcare is an issue. Will America do something about its residents? Not very likely!! We are too busy blowing our money on the spreading of Democracy throughout an uncaring world. After preparing herself for a career, would there be one in America? Not very likely!! We are too busy hiring sweatshop and child labor from countries currently less fortunate than America.

Do I want her to grow up in the Neo-Con version of America? This is the one with eroded rights and no middle class. Would I prefer the days of old, the fifties, when we were all happy? Probably so.

How best to achieve that is to NEVER, EVER, vote for another Republican so long as I live!! They are bottom line feeders upon the working class. They can’t help it, that’s just what they are. But my Granddaughter Julia and I do not need or want them. Get active people, or face the same thoughts I faced yesterday. It’s a real eye-opener!!

Women Don’t Have the Guts to Kill a Rat!!
12/11/07

Women don’t have the guts to kill a rat, and I can prove it!! Nancy Pelosi has, against the wishes of her countrymen, done nothing to impeach Bush/Cheney. Why does this softhearted female think Democrats gained so many seats in the last election?

Failure to act upon the mandate of the people may send some Democrats packing in 2008. There is little or no doubt that Republicans will lose seats, but Democrats need to quit assuming they are safe if they follow more of the same path. Americans demand change!! They want a true return to the values that made America unique in the world.

Nothing less will do, no matter how many faces change in D.C. None will be allowed to continue the game as now played. It doesn’t require a third party, just one that looks and listens. We know that won’t be the Republican Party. How many Democrats does it take to change course? We will just keep sending new ones until we get it right.

My best advice to newly elected Democrats; lease your dwelling. Don’t plan on being there if you don’t do a better job than some of the old-timers.

If they don’t do a better job second-term elected could well become the new old-timers. Americans are truly going to insist upon accountability. Just being on committees won’t save you now. Your actions, or lack of them, ala Pelosi is what will count in the future.

Crazed as a Rabid Fox!!
12/04/07

President Bush has been called “crazy like a fox." I have never understood that expression, but would question it none the less, as regards President Bush. He is crazed as a rabid fox!!

Let’s review recent American history to see if long-term history will be kind to our President. I sincerely doubt it. However there are many who still believe in this fox.

The events of 9-11 defy scientific evidence. They also defy common sense. If we could name all the perpetrators so quickly, it would be the first time in history for us to do so. If we could name the mastermind, and fly his relatives out of the country, why could we not have prevented 9-11? Allegedly intelligence was available, and passed to the administration, far enough in advance to do something other than read a children’s book.

Iraq had no WMD, a fact divulged by U.N. inspectors prior to our “shock and awe” munitions manufacturer-enriching exhibition of power. Iraq had zero to do with the events of 9-11. We didn’t even name them as involved until the Neo-Cons wanted to invade.

This administration has constantly appointed ill prepared people to important positions. Brownie did not really do a good job following Hurricane Katrina. A trucking official is ill prepared to advise on global warming. Generals and CIA heads have rolled constantly throughout this administration's tenure. It appears that if you speak, either the truth, or something else those at the top don’t want to hear, you are replaced. The replacement is usually a parrot for whatever lies the administration has going at the moment.

Stem cell research was slowed considerably by the President’s view on abortion. This despite the fact that only embryos due to be discarded were to be used. The years lost in research may have cost more lives than the war in Iraq, but who’s counting.

PR efforts have been used to “spin” events throughout this administration's regime. They have flat lied about occurrences in Iraq to cause Americans to feel good about this invasion of an innocent land. Paid broadcasters have been used to present fiction as fact. They recite their lines as if is is news, not scripted BS.

Even now, as the clock winds down on this bunch of liars, they choose to belittle the efforts of our own intelligence community. Iran is NOT attempting to manufacture nuclear weapons. If the President, and his hand-picked staff of accomplices, choose not to listen to intelligence, why do we fund their efforts? We could outsource it to the Kremlin and it would probably be more heeded by King George!!

As you can see I think history, even current events, paint this administration as buffoons with a mission. They have spent more money on cronyism than anyone ever before them. For some reason they have been allowed to serve without imprisonment or impeachment. History is going to have to tell me why, for I surely don’t understand it!!

wilhite@jerrypippin.com

Isn’t it Strange that Management is Never Outsourced?
12/03/07

There is zero doubt in my mind that large campaign contributors, most of them corporations, own both sides of the aisle in our existing political structure. They throw money at both sides hoping one of their horses wins. In which case, said horse is beholden to said large contributor. This is awful for the American working, and middle class.

As they consolidate cash into fewer pockets, power grows at a larger rate than expenditures. They have even expanded it to war by allowing no-bid cost plus contracts. It is believed that thirty percent of the people will soon control the remainder. That, my friends, is when it’s doing to get tough.

Those in power have shown they care little for country or countrymen. The bottom line, and what it means to them, is all that matters. A review of American history will be an eye opener.

In the early 1900’s American workers unionized and sought the living conditions to which they were always entitled. They demanded and received an honest wage. They demanded and received an assurance that child labor would cease. Yes, even America had sweatshops in which women and children toiled for long hours at piecework wages that were too low to support a family. Unions and workers brought about a needed and appropriate change for the country.

The country thrived. American products were the best. They were prized and desired all over the world. Americans were known worldwide for their fairness.

Through it all the evil plotted to return to the old ways. They were wise enough to buy politicians. They figured to change laws in order to revert to where we are today. They won!!

Today they sell products made in sweatshops. They are made by human beings earning as little as seventeen CENTS per hour. They are made in countries where human rights do not exist.

American corporations, and bought politicians, call it “outsourcing." Isn’t it strange that management is never outsourced? Surely, in other countries there exist people talented enough to ruin America for fewer dollars than existing management.

What has been allowed to happen in America is a shame and a travesty. Our forefathers who fought for equal rights and wages are surely spinning in their graves. 2008 is a fine year to fire many of those holding and abusing public office. If I could write the book there would be no incumbents returned to pillage and plunder from the electorate. We would send new faces to Washington, D.C. and watch them closely. Lobbyists would be jailed for twenty years minimum, for bribery. Politicians would not make up their own ethics committee. That would become a function of outside observers.

Maybe it’s just a dream, but I really want American youth to enjoy being American as much as I have. I don’t see it happening in today’s atmosphere. Wake up, educate yourselves and vote. A vote really is too precious to waste!!

Bah, Bush, Bah!!
11/29/07

President Bush has asked that funding for the Iraq war be accomplished with no strings attached. Failure to do so implies that Democrats don’t support the troops. Bah!! This President has so messed up everything he has touched that rope, not strings, should be attached.

The Neo-Cons, with their war-like behavior, have literally looted the U.S. Treasury. Halliburton, and their ilk, have more money than we do. Mercenaries, who appear to maim and kill with no conscience, are paid double and triple what a soldier receives. Where is the support for the troops in that?

Troops have been sent into combat situations in ill prepared Humvees, and no body armor. I really fail to see support for the troops in that debacle. Military have suffered in miserably run military hospitals when wounded. That also seems to lack troop support. Families of killed soldiers have been asked to pay back signing bonuses because the deceased didn’t fulfill their commitment. That is purely mean behavior.

Funding has never been withheld from Halliburton, even when fraud is alleged. Blackwater employees were given immunity from prosecution. No wonder they kill and maim with no restraint.

If Democrats in office waver or negotiate on their previous decision to withhold funding until a later date they should be voted from office. A proper punishment would be to rope them all into a bunch with G.W. and make them listen to him for a few years.

President Bush stated that Americans WANTED funding for the war uninterrupted. Seventy eight percent want an end to the war. That, for the President who can’t count, but can lie, constitutes a real majority. That, Mr. President, is, in fact, a real mandate.

Democrats, stand firm. If you can’t, you might have to seek gainful employment, and most companies today run character checks. You might never be hired. Do what you were elected to do, which is the right thing to do!!

Cabbages CAN Become Kings!!
11/25/07

The Archbishop of Canterbury has remarked that America no longer takes the high road. Sadly, I agree. America collectively appears to have no conscience.

This erosion of morals and values was caused by the Neo-Con element now in power. Prior to the invasion of Iraq, based on a web of deceit worthy a Tom Clancy novel, they had laws changed to protect from future punishment. They dropped out of treaties and organizations that would have been able to hold them culpable.

They have since embarked on courses of action designed to divide the country, assuming the old “Divide and Conquer” theory was correct. They have given a face to the enemy. They appear to be Muslims intent on doing away with America and Christianity. This use of religion is so blatantly against the teachings of God that I wonder He hasn’t smote them where they stood.

Instead religious leaders have been seduced into endorsing the actions of those leading the administration. The Republican Party has become their false idol. Some churches have even removed from their rolls those who opposed the war. That smacks of the work of the Devil to me, surely not Godlike.

America and Americans deserve to have only moral leadership. Instead we have a President who has alluded to having two-way conversations with God. There is nothing new in hearing voices that no one else hears. Heck, the Son of Sam killer heard direction from his dog. Joan of Arc, burned at the stake, was directed by voices also. Lots of alcoholics hear from God on a regular basis. They just don’t get to occupy the oval office. They don’t have access to the power of the mightiest military in the world.

Who is to be held accountable for the desertion of morality expected from America? Americans, that’s who. We all have allowed our votes to go unused. Voter turnout is dismal. Apathy reigns. If you, like me, would like to see a return to the high standards of those who preceded us we must encourage everyone to vote. Votes must have a paper trail. Parties must become secondary to the needs of the country.

Work together to cause Americans to vote in November of 2008. Help them remember the land of our forefathers. If we don’t, then truly - cabbages can become Kings.

Democrats FINALLY Take a Stand!!
11/20/07

I have spent a few days reviewing the situation in Iraq. I just can’t call it a war because the enemy has no command center, no known communications center, no Army, Navy, or Air Force. In short they have nothing with which to oppose our troops.

Yet, oppose us they do, daily. They continue to kill alliance forces, mostly American with all the skill they can muster. Russia was basically defeated by Afghanistan. Are we to suffer the same fate?

We have the Pentagon full of military geniuses that wish no oversight. We have an Army, stretched thin as can be stretched. We have a Navy equipped as no other Navy in the world, except, maybe China. We have an Air Force full of skilled pilots flying latest technology aircraft.

We, it seems, have everything we need to succeed. We have a Commander-in-Chief. We have a defense department, including cabinet level Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. We have a Vice President viewed by the world as a warmonger. We have it all.

Why, then, are so many Americans being killed and maimed? Why, then, are we NINE TRILLION in debt? Why, then, when sixty-eight percent of Americans want an end to the war, are we even there?

In fact, the same idiots that put us there are now rattling sabers at Iran. That situation looks like two nutcases double-daring each other. They have no fear. They won’t be there.

No, sons and daughters of both countries will die to appease the stupidity of the national leaders. We are hearing our side build yet another WMD scenario, just like the one in Iraq. None were found after we shocked and awed Baghdad into oblivion. Just more political BS in order to empty the treasury and reward campaign contributors.

The Democrats have finally taken a stand, way too late, but nonetheless, a stand. They have finally not rubber stamped a request for more funds. I wonder, did they tire of being pushed around, or did they realize November’s election could send them home? After all, sixty-eight per cent want the war to cease. I bet a far larger number don’t want us to bring Iran into the conflict.

So, The Pentagon is threatening to lay off two hundred thousand civilians, close all Army bases, followed by Marine bases in order to continue the war. O.K., that is their choice. We all have to make choices on how to budget too few funds. In my case, it is often over priced prescription drugs, or car insurance, or food, or utility bills.

I guess I just don’t care that the warmongers and Pentagon have problems. I have enough of my own and I don’t see them sending me money!! I have no children at risk in Iraq and am thankful. Parents of soldiers are expected to put on a brave front, but sixty-eight percent has to include many who truly want their children home.

Quoting that infamous idiot, George W. Bush, I would say to the Democrats, “Stay the course!!!” Failure to do so could mean removal from office in November. Some of you might even have to seek gainful employment in a country in which most jobs have been outsourced. That, however, is for another day. Just remember, “Stay the course!!" If it’s good enough for W, it’s plenty good enough for us!!

Our Last Hurrah!!
11/06/07

At times I wonder what is wrong with those that have that they think those who do not have should not have. The world is full of these people. They control in many ways the lives of those under their influence.

As an example, homelessness should not exist in this country. Hungry children should not be forced to wonder if the day will include food. Millions of Americans should not be without basic health care, unable to even pay for preventative care.

This country, under the uncaring existing administration, has spent enough money in the war against terror to solve the problems detailed in the previous paragraph. We are a nation that is nine trillion dollars in debt. Our great-grandchildren will still be paying for the excesses of this administration. They have caused more harm to America than any enemy ever did.

I am called a liberal, yet I am not in all ways. I am compassionate for the working class, the poor, etc. This compassion does not seem to exist in the souls of conservatives. I could not be a conservative because of conscience. I would feel badly if the working class and poor were further enslaved. Conservatives do not!

It really is time through the power of the vote for the working class, the poor, those racially discriminated against, to unite and elect someone with a liberal bent. Maybe it is a candidate now running, maybe a candidate yet to proclaim, or someone virtually drafted to run. The candidates from whom we have to choose all look like more of the same to me. I hope I am wrong.

Kucinich appears to be the most idealistic candidate. I believe he truly cares for the rights and needs of the people. He is written off as unelectable because big money shuns him. Possibly we need someone not bought and paid for in the Oval Office. God knows we don’t have it now, and have not had for years.

Dobbs is sounding good lately. I don’t know enough about him to be able to pass on any insight, but I intend to learn. Everyone should look beyond the promises, which are likely just words, to the soul of the man. Cast your votes accordingly.

This country deserves unity. This country deserves respect. This country needs to say, “We do not torture prisoners” and not have the world feel differently. The conservatives talk values, but don’t deliver. Liberals sometimes promise too much, but at least the promises are not as bad as the chants of the conservative warmongers.

People, look around you. Use your minds. Vote for somebody. Low voter turnout makes it possible for elections to be manipulated. Insist on paper trails when balloting. Send the conservative mindset home for a while and let’s see if things improve. This election truly well is our last hurrah.

Does Spying on Public Exceed Wiretapping?
11/02/07

I have reason to fear that our government may have a way to spy on us. This would be visual, not just the illegal wiretapping to which they admit. It is starting to bother me because I suspect they are selling very private information to Internet hustlers.

I have recently been barraged with sellers eager to sell me pills, potions, lotions, or incantations to increase my penis size. Many days fully half of all e-mails I receive are directed toward this issue.

How do they know? Like all men I have always maintained that size was not an issue. I think we all add three or four inches when pressed to give an answer.

I hid in the gym shower. I lied, at all times. I took apparent pride in my manhood, so how do they know?

Wiretapping, I fear, is not the least intrusive practice by the government. I think our homes, even our bathrooms, may be wired with tiny web cams. Whether done for the pleasure of Cheney-Bush, who are sneaky souls, or national Intel, this is wrong.

I will continue to stick to my size is not an issue story until I am shown a videotape of me in the shower. There could be other explanations, like someone cracked under torture and gave my name. Everyone knows Intel gleaned this way is extremely questionable. Anyway, that seems farfetched. President Bush has said, “We do not torture detainees.”

I didn’t believe him then and the size issue lends credibility to the fact he lies. I swear my WMD is bigger than Saddam’s. Oh,well, only time will tell.

Pinocchio Bush
10/03/07

Republicans had no problem with the political ads belittling Sen.’s Kerry and Cleland. But oh my, how quickly they whine when it is one of theirs under fire. MoveOn.Org ran an ad questioning whether the Petraeus report could be treated as anything less than self-serving, especially when it was rewritten and issued under the auspices of the White House.

Somehow the White House has taken this ad to be a full-blown attack against the military. The Swift Boat ads were more divisive and appeared to be less than truthful. Where were the beacons of fair play, gag me, Bush and the boys then?

President Bush has already caused a fine soldier to feel less than perfect about not speaking his mind. I refer to the lies uttered by Colin Powell before the U.N. when Bush was selling his little war. If Colin Powell may be suspect, why not General Petraeus? Ambition can make an honest man find justification for many things he might not normally say or do. Move On. Org, and all other Americans, would be well advised to question anything from this administration.

As women say about men, “If his lips are moving, he’s lying” should be the key when Bush and his bunch speak. Go back and count the lies. There are so many that you just can’t remember them all. If Bush was Pinocchio he would be at the White House and the tip of his nose would be somewhere in Montana.

Question away. It is our right, maybe even an obligation. Hurrah, Move On.Org, low-life left-wing seeker of the truth!!

Dixie Chicks are Great Americans
10/02/07

Every now and then I awake to thoughts of the Dixie Chicks and the extraordinary courage shown by them in expressing their discomfort with President Bush. On a stage overseas they apologized for the fact that Bush shared their beloved Texas as a home state. Immediately radio stations removed them from their play lists. The economic loss was extreme.

Did the demure Dixie Chicks back down? Hell, no!!. They simply continued to make music, attempt to continue what had been a huge career. Alas, shows were cancelled. Music sales plummeted.

The Dixie Chicks slightly shifted their focus, edging just a wee bit out of country music to pop. They made a living. They never bowed to pressure.

In their mind, they were right, and the all-hat, no-cattle cowboy from Crawford was wrong. There was no middle ground. Through all of this one sensed that the lead singer had spoken her mind, with or without prior discussion with the other Chicks. They never wavered. They supported her all the way.

Today my mind conjured up a meeting that never happened in the Oval Office. President Bush asked Miss Marnes there to see if see was yet ready to apologize, or in any other way kiss his butt. Far from it, she said.

Instead she unveiled their newest song," Not Ready to Make Nice, Yet", and played it for the dufus from Crawford. That song went on to win gold status and was honored by a music profession that really knew they had been wrong in the past.

When the song ended, Miss Marnes looked at President Bush and said, "You need say nothing, for little Texas girls are taught early in life to detect BS. In your case, it's true, if your lips are moving, you’re lying."

With that, in a graceful manner, she departed the Oval office. The only set of balls in the room left when she did...and they were bigguns. I said it before, and I’ll say it again…"God, Bless the Dixie Chicks!"

Democracy, Let's Roll!!
10/01/07

Having accomplished our mission in Iraq, it is time to carry the true meaning of Democracy to other countries. My guess is that our next conquest will be Iran. The Iranians, like the Iraqi’s, will soon have an opportunity to throw rose petals at our feet.

Like Iraq, Iran has sufficient oil income to pay for our bringing Democracy to them without stretching our budget. That sure has been beneficial in Iraq, hasn’t it? President Bush doesn’t read the same press releases I do. He is saying we need another two hundred billion dollars or so for the Iraq war. He is saying we can’t fund health care for American children at a cost figure only seven billion greater than anticipated.

Well, those are separate issues. We have succeeded in Iraq, and it is time to move on to other fronts in the war on terror. I have concluded that the war on terror will be global, seemingly fought in oil producing countries, and a total failure.

I am trying to pick our next invasion point. Will it be Syria? Lebanon? Michigan? After all, with new-found spying authority the President can go wherever he believes necessary. It doesn’t require reason, logic, facts, just a desire to press on in the cause of Democracy. We Americans are quickly losing our freedoms and rights. We may well become the next front.

Makes a lot of sense when you think about it. The savings in logistics would drive Halliburton and Blackwater over the top. Profits would be so high. After all, its not doing the work, just getting the contract.

Beware, Iran. We won’t have a lot of time to set you on the correct path. You will have to follow the proven stabilization techniques we have employed in Iraq. Instructions to follow. Next stop, Detroit. After that we could head to New Orleans and undo ALL the rebuilding done there. Shouldn’t take more than a day or two. Damn, this global war on terror stuff can be fun!!

I Have a New Problem with President Bush
09/26/07

I have a new problem with President Bush’s war thingy in Iraq. First, it is not a war. It is an occupation. A war requires an enemy force. The opposition we are “fighting” has no Army, Navy, Air Force, Central Command Post, or specific chain of command.

We are fighting a few smart terrorists who recruit Iraqi patriots to expel the infidel invader. Early we had military leaders who bragged we could not lose because OURS was the true God. Blow that up on an Al Qaeda recruitment poster and see how many enlist.

We rave that we are fighting them there so we don’t need to fight them here. Absolute bull fodder, created by a public relations guy. Remember the part about no Army, Air Force, or Navy. That is still true. Unless we sell them tickets on commercial aircraft or ships, they just can’t get here.

Sure, a few can walk in through Canada or Mexico because Homeland Security sucks. We spend $500,000 a second to fight smoke in Baghdad. If we brought our troops home we could use a pittance of that to seal our borders, which should have been done long ago.

Now I learn we are paying Johnny Commando types to escort diplomats and guests in the Green Zone. Earnings in excess of a hundred thousand dollars per annum per mercenary are reported. Risk is minimal compared to our sons and daughters serving in the hot spots for peanuts. Why don’t we reverse roles? Let Johnny Commando really earn his greenbacks. Let our kids roar through Baghdad in armored Humvees.

Basically, Bush and his war is a figment draining taxpayer dollars to a few cronies. Impeach or imprison those who created this monster!! 2008 is drawing near!!

Cold-hearted Bush
09/21/07

You may find early in this article that I don’t have a very good opinion of President Bush, or the Nazi-like Neo-cons who blindly exhort his praises. This highly principled jerk has harmed America more than all her previous enemies combined, and he has no intention of stopping in his remaining time in office. He is simply a cold-hearted advocate for the wealthy.

Yesterday he attempted to show an example of his fiscal reserve. He promised to veto a bill that would give more American children health care. The bill would be thirty five billion more over seven years than a plan he supports. His plan is woefully inadequate, but he doesn’t care. The kids involved are not those of his family or their cronies. They, after all, have health care.

Days ago this jerk asked for an additional fifty billion dollars before years end to continue his FAILED war on terror. He doesn’t mind stepping to the pump to support the military-industrial contributors to the GOP, but screw the children of America’s middle class and below.

Now, I have a limited education, but if seven billion a year is unsupportable, how do we support the fifty billion? And, it won’t stop there. This idiot, cocky cowboy that he is, will want more every two or three months.

If we can’t fund America, why fund Iraq? According to the liars in office they are our enemies. They were buddies with Osama, attacked the twin towers, had weapons of mass destruction pointed at our heads, thirty minutes from impact. Additionally, President Bush wanted to show his Daddy how.

As of today it is highly possible that every man, woman, and child could have been issued checks for close to a million dollars each. That is about what we have spent on the war[?]effort, a ridiculous Homeland Security Department, and judicial costs to strip us of our freedoms. If I had my million dollars I could pay the price the drug companies demand for their prescriptions, another Bush boondoggle, I might add.

So, if you are a Bush fan, kiss my grits!! You are an idiot, or a thief. Those are all that support Georgie. Continue to fund enemies, kill soldiers, wage wars, but, for God’s sake, don’t fund American children. It’s probably not necessary. You will just send the survivors to Iraq in another ten years. You guys make me sick!! May the Lord have no mercy upon your sorry souls!!

Osama Says, "Let's move."
09/20/07

Osama Bin Laden has finally made the move that I have been expecting. President Bush has been snookered again, but, hey, that isn’t hard to do. Bush, having rallied his Republican sheep behind him, and having committed a trillion dollars or more to the ongoing war in Iraq, may soon be fighting air.

I have always said that a permanent ground force is not the way to fight terrorists. Once they have you positioned, they can move. We have already bemoaned the fact that getting our troops out of Iraq will be difficult and costly. Mention has been made of increased risk to the troops, as if leaving them there is safe.

Bush is even considering war or invasion or provocation of Iran. Iran has a real fighting force, not just rag-tag volunteers against the occupying U.S. forces. I guess the theory, in this delusional President’s mind, is if you can’t win one war, start more. Just the kind of leader I want - not.

Osama, having watched Bush and his idiots commit to Iraq, now infers that Pakistan will be their next battleground. Many there seem loyal to Al Qaeda now. We have offered millions and millions of dollars for information leading to the capture of Osama. No one has made an effort to claim it.

The bad thing is if we react to Pakistan the convoy of camels and volunteers only has to return to Iraq, or go into yet another country. We can’t continue to multiply our troops, even with a draft. Al Qaeda doesn’t need to multiply, just move. The cost of logistics, coupled with the military-industrial profits, coupled with pay to mercenaries will soon cause even China to tire of supporting, with dollars, the idiots in charge. I am sure China will support them publicly, lending encouragement all the way. China, uninvolved in battle, will be the real winner when our economy finally nose-dives.

Impeachment or imprisonment is what we need. The scorn demonstrated by Bush and his cronies toward efforts to slow him is unfathomable. Arrest them and let the process of healing begin.

Real Men, Like George and Me
09/19/07

I, like President Bush, am a macho man from Texas. We don’t even know from what part of a cow quiche is derived, but REAL MEN, like George and I, don’t eat quiche. We rule the roost.

We, real men, don’t make mistakes!! We don’t ask directions. We don’t need a bunch of wusses telling us how to wage war, either. We have Dick Cheney, five-time deferment winner in the Viet Nam era, for that.

Recently I attended a small dinner party in Dallas, Texas. I left Dallas Sunday morning for the leisurely drive to Houston, TX, home of real men. My wife, just as I am sure Laura does George, tried to do some back seat driving. Like George, for we are real men, I told her to just keep quiet, any idiot can drive from Dallas to Houston. You don’t even change highways, for God’s sake.

Today it is Wednesday and my wife and I are in Paducah, KY. She hasn’t spoke to me for quite some time, days actually. I, like all real men, still have not asked for directions, and I absolutely refuse to do so.

I suppose it would be all right for my wife to ask, after all she is not a real man. However, when I subtly hint at this, she just mutely stares at me. I am thinking the honeymoon is over. A woman, and you can check Tammy Wynette on this, is supposed to stand by her man. My woman keeps trying to get me out of the car. I don’t trust her anymore.

Sometimes the responsibility of being a real man, or a President, seems an impossible task. I did call Dick Cheney on that cell phone thingy, but he was laughing so hard I couldn’t understand a word he was saying. Oh, well, full speed ahead, that’s the way to run a country!!

The Decider Has Decided!!
09/17/07

It appears that Democrats who were elected in overwhelming numbers in 2006 do not understand why. Their mission was to impeach President Bush, and/or Vice President Cheney. Sure, there are other areas of concern, which they can attack, appearing to look busy while knowing that without completion of Job 1, nothing else stands a chance of passage.
